Silvertip Tetra

Hasemania nana aka,Hasemania melanura, and Hemigrammus nanus

Location: South America. Brazil: San Francisco river region.

Max Size: 2 in (5 cm)

Description: Peaceful, schooling, community fish. Keep in groups of at least 3. Avoid cichlids.

Water:  Soft, slightly acidic

pH: 5.7-7.2

Temp: 75-82*F

Diet: Omnivorous (flakes or freeze dried), bloodworm, daphnia.

Sexing: females are plumper, Males have more colour.

A hardy, active and colourful tetra.  Well maintained specimens will show an attractive gold cast to the body. Like most tetras it does best in groups. Keep it with other small peaceful fish.

There is little on the internet about these tetras. Of what there is all seem to give the same basic facts, sexing, preference for shoaling, feeding etc. Sizes can differ by up to a half inch! My own Silvertips seldom passed 2 inches.
