Cleartide Overflow
Instructions

The Cleartides overflow box is specifically designed to skim the surface water layer of your aquarium. With this overflow box an existing aquarium can be connected to a sump filter without the need for any drilling of the aquarium. Once connected to the aquarium, connect pipe work on the return to the sump. When you initially start the overflow box, it will drain water from your aquarium to the height of the front edge of the overflow box.

It is important to bleed the air from the overflow box. Suck on the air bleed valve until water flows and then close off the valve. As the water level rises in the aquarium, it flows through the vacuum area and into the return chamber of the overflow box.

It is important that the vacuum area of the overflow box does not contain any air once the unit is working. It is this vacuum that keeps the water in place should your pump stop or t and once it restarts, the water will still flow through the unit because of the trapped water in the vacuum area.

This vacuum can be maintained by placing some airline on the air bleed valve and attaching it to the venturi of a powerhead, thus creating a constant suction from the vacuum area of the overflow box. If this cannot be done then you need to manually remove any air build up by sucking on the air bleed valve twice a week to remove any which builds up in the top of the overflow.
