Lion Fish

One of the most recognised of all marine fishes.
There are several varieties but here I will concentrate upon the Volitans Lionfish, the most well known.

Also known as Common Lionfish; Turkeyfish; Red Firefish, Butterfly Cod and Devilfish

Maximum Length: 38cm (15 in) Range: Indo - Pacific Minimum Aquarium Required: 55 galls (208 litres)

Food: Meaty foods, marine fish, crustacean flesh. Live grass shrimp or feeder fish may be required to initiate feeding. Feed 3 - 4 times a week.

Reef Aquarium Compatibility: Will eat ornamental shrimps and smaller fishes

Care: Long lived species that spends most of its day in the open. Can grow large so needs plenty of swimming room. Will eat fish and crustacean inhabitants.
Can be kept in groups in large aquaria, has been known to behave aggressively on the odd occasion or another member of the species Pterois.
Due to its lack of shyness, it is one of the best species for shallow or deep aquaria.

WARNING: Spines are Venomous - Seek Medical Advice Immediately
